Villa Rocco

About this project

Strengthening the village character by integrating village functions while maintaining scale. A distinctive post-war villa with neo-Gothic influences stands at a roundabout and forms the gateway to the village of Aaigem. The villa originally housed a doctor’s practice and was built for a large family with eight children and a live-in maid, each with their own room and several bathrooms.

Research was initially conducted to assess the potential for reuse, but this proved unfeasible due to thermal and acoustic requirements. The original volume was respected, and in a refined contemporary architectural language, seven residential units and a medical practice were developed. The outbuildings are being transformed into a shared garden space for gatherings and leisure.

The plot is relatively wide and contains several valuable trees. The existing greenery was carefully inventoried and preserved as much as possible. Together with landscape architect Karolien from In-Bloom, an extensive, ecological, and low-maintenance garden was created.
