About this project

This was one of the first larger new-build schools in our twenty-year school construction career. Six classrooms, a media classroom and a multipurpose room are organised in a traditional linear building layout. The volume gives the urban primary school a fresh new look on the street. The field oven brick ties in with the existing red brick buildings. The volume is situated on a slope. On the street side, there is a small square with seating areas as a meeting place for parents, who no longer have to wait on the pavement of the busy road. The square acts as a buffer between the child-friendly school environment and the busy regional road. The playground at the rear is connected to the first floor. The building has a traditional layout of classrooms with a circulation area. At that time, we were at the beginning of an energy evolution in which the choice was made to move forward: sun blinds, natural cooling, ground pipes, etc.
