Farmstead between front and back garden
A long-abandoned farmstead stands halfway across the site. The front garden is bathed in sunlight, defined by the atmosphere created by a large conifer and a charmingly irregular willow. The old building acts as a screen between the street and the owner’s residence, which sits within a landscaped garden in the surrounding countryside.
An endless mix of materials and volumes shapes the archetype of the “ugliest street.” The farmstead stands as a crooked tooth in the row, one of the oldest buildings on the street, set back from the more recent ribbon development.
It was an intuitive choice to preserve, renovate, and repurpose the farmstead as an office. The result is a delicate balance between closed, transparent, and semi-transparent elements, positioned between the front and back garden.
