    Folies Park Breivelde

    About this project

Over the past decades, various architectural elements in the English landscape park of Breivelde have been gradually restored. The process began with the landscape redesign of the ice cellar. A major intervention involved restoring the pond banks and dredging the upper basin. This was followed by the restoration of statues and their pedestals, the renovation of the entrance towers and gate, and the creation of a wheelchair-friendly path alongside the protected cobblestone driveway. The original arched bridges had disappeared, but after an in-depth iconographic study of their design, a new contemporary yet harmonious model was developed. The entrance area was upgraded with the addition of a public meeting zone and bicycle parking, providing a place to gather.

‘Follies’ such as a bridge in the park, an outdoor classroom in the woods, or a piece of furniture design are important to us as they help maintain a sense of connection with small-scale interventions.
