An existing house and the remaining buildings of a former cattle feed company have been transformed into a single-family home with offices for a horticultural business. Seventy-five percent of the house’s structure was preserved. The structural crack between the old house and the former garage was used to remove the garage volume and replace it with a new wooden CLT extension that now forms the living space. The former living room was converted into office space.
The dining room with its double-height void serves as the central space around which all other rooms are organized. The new living area is located on the north side but connects to the view of the landscape at the end of the building strip. The tall window above the dining area captures southern light from the front façade and frames a view of the greenery along the street.
